Reverie

Music in whispers of your lips, songs hovering in strands of your hair. You giggle and paint your love gold. And I remember. I remember wild purple kisses, tongues twisting in bloom. Yet, the taste of copper overtakes my mouth, and fog covers my eyes that long for the rosy blush of fake visions.

Your face is a lost photograph in the between, handled by strangers, blowing leaves or paper airplanes, burned or saved? I imagine you hiding in a dusty box or sitting on a shelf. Someone else giving your quizzical features a story matching their own.

Frozen snapshot holding space places you at the summit of my heart, the world bowing wide and immeasurable at your feet. Wild winds caress your spirit and carry your smile to those who don’t deserve its warmth. I fall to my knees again and again, beg you to come back. Find my cracked reflection one last time.

Ice-cold lakes floating beyond you tempt me with a life that is not my own. Someday I will let you go. Today we wander in dreams.
